Travelling from the airport and on the island

Taxis
The best method of travel from the airport to Starfish Mahogany Bay is by taxi.  Local taxi drivers are usually very friendly and helpful to their passengers.

Taxis do not have meters, but fare prices are regulated by the Government and are very reasonable. Price listings are available from our booking agents who can also arrange transfers to and from the airport for you.

Car Rentals
Many types of cars are available to suit the needs of any vistors and Barbados has a good network of roads which covers the entire island.  It is important to note that driving is on the left. There is a speed limit of 60 kph (37 mph per hour), except where otherwise indicated.

A Barbados driving permit is required before you may drive on the island. You can obtain a Barbados drivers license for $10.00 Bds either from your car rental company or any police station once you have a valid license from your country of residence or are in possession of an International Driving Permit.

Public Transport
Local public transport is probably the best in the region. There are government-run transport services providing large buses and also private minibuses. The bus service offers a frequent, comprehensive coverage of the island. The price is on average a flat rate of approx. Bds$1.50 for all routes although it should be noted that buses can be crowded during rush hour and most routes connect through the main bus terminal in Bridgetown.

ZR Vans
There are many licensed "minivans" or ZR’s (as the locals call them) that run around the island picking up tourist and locals. You will recognize them by their "ZR" license plate. They have few fixed schedules but there are many of them and service is frequent. The rate is Bds$1.50 and is not recommended for the nervous passenger as ZR’s are known to stop frequently, often abruptly, and move quickly to pick up the maximum paying passengers in the shortest time.
